The following is a chronological list of 'recent' projects on Collembola taxonomy and nomenclature that I have been or still am working on or cooperating with.

Nomina Collembola Belgica

In 1995, I have received from Dr Patrick Grootaert of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences a large set of undetermined Collembola specimens from the Belgian collection.
Status:

• 1995......: Dr Patrick Grootaert, head of the department Entomology of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences delivers me a large set of undetermined Collembola specimens from the Belgian collection.
• 1996.09.01: provisonal checklist published in Entomo-Info.
• 1997.04.24: Dr Luc De Bruyn of the University of Antwerp (RUCA), Belgium, department Biology, accepts mentorship of this project and provides for the required facilities.
• 1997.08.13: inventarisation of specimens of the sample tubes (about 80 tubes, so far).

Printed key of the species of Pseudosinella in DELTA

Based on Dr Christiansen's inter-active key of the genus Pseudosinella in DELTA, I have made a printed version of this key as an excercise to get familiar with the DELTA system.
Status:

• 1996.02.20: I received the paper of Dr Christiansen et al. (1990) on the inter-active Pseudosinella key in DELTA from Dr Christiansen. Also, I received the associated DELTA files. I made a preliminary incomplete key.
• 1996.02.29: the final version of the key is emailed to Dr Christiansen.
• 1997.06.10: the key of Pseudosinella is HTML-ized.
• 1997.07.22: the DELTA input files can be downloaded.
• 1997.07.22: project closed.
• 1998.04.23: project reopened : link to on-line BUGS DELTA interactive key added.
• 1999.11.23: project reopened : link to on-line NaviKey based interactive key added.

Collembola of the Italian pre-Alps

Dr Gianluca Governatori of the Università degli Studi di Udine, Dipartimento di Biologia Applicata alla Difesa delle Piante, asks me to determine some Collembola specimens from the environments of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.
Status:

• 1996.02.27: Dr Governatori sent 6 sample tubes with Collembola specimens.
• 1996.03.20: preliminary report on the cave samples 1 to 3 emailed to Dr Governatori.
• 1996.07.16: preliminary report on the cave samples 1 to 3 remailed to Dr Governatori.
• 1996.11.05: preliminary report on sample 4 emailed to Dr Governatori.
• 1997.01.06: full report on samples 1 to 6 emailed to Dr Governatori.
• 1997.02.10: full report on samples 1 to 6 faxed to Dr Governatori, now working at the Museo Friulano di Storia Naturale, Udine, Italy.
• 1997.06.01: checklist published in Entomo-Info.
• 1997.06.09: project closed.

Revision of Arrhopalites in DELTA

Due to my (limited) experience with DELTA, in November 1996, Dr Christiansen contacted me to join a project of Dr Zeppelini on the revision of Arrhopalites using the DEscriptive Language for TAxonomy (DELTA) by Mike J. Dallwitz of the CSIRO Division of Entomology in Canberra, Australia
Status:

• 1996.11.12: Dr Christiansen's proposal to join the doctoral work on Arrhopalites of Dr. Zeppelini.
• 1996.11.12: confirmation of collaboration with Dr Zeppelini.
• 1996.11.29: Dr Zeppelini moves from Mexico to Brazil.
• 1997.02.26: Dr Zeppelini arrives in Brazil at the University of Sao Paulo. His advisor is Dr Dalton de Souza Amorim.
• 1999.09.28-10.08: Dr Zeppelini arrives in Belgium at the University of Antwerp (RUCA). A prototype key to the species of Arrhopalites is prepared.

Collembola of the Canadian grasslands

On May 27, 1997, Dr Dan L. Johnson of the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centre of Lethbridge, Canada offers me to join a collaborative research project on Collembola of the Canadian grasslands. This project would include any of the following topics: ecology, diversity, activity, comparisons via DNA analysis.
Status:

• 1997.06.11: Dr Johnson: ' What I had in mind to start would be a comparison of the Collembola of typical ecosystems in these environments:
  • native undisturbed grassland (we still have some);
  • modified grassland, with modern grasses sown in and grazed;
  • broken and conventially tilled grassland;
  • "conservation tillage", minimum tillage, and continous cropping systems.'
• 1997.06.12: objectives of the scientific paper :
  • comparison of taxa among several grassland ecoregions;
  • practical key.
• 1997.06.13: Dr Johnson ordered 60 funnels and compiled literature on Collembola.
• 1997.10.17: starter sample from Lethbridge, Alberta, September 1, 1997, sent.
• 1997.11.10: 2 additional samples sent by courier.
• 1997.11.17: the 2 addtional samples arrived.
• 1998.01.01: project stalled.

Aggregations of Hypogastrura (Hypogastrura) ripperi in Lethbridge, Canada

On June 5, 1997, Dr Dan L. Johnson of the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centre of Lethbridge, Canada asks me to confirm his tentative determination of 'Ceratophysella pseudarmata' from high density aggregations in Lethbridge, Canada.
Status:

• 1997.06.06: Dr Johnson shipped a first vial with some hypogastrurid specimens to be determined.
• 1997.07.01: Dr Johnson shipped a second vial with some hypogastrurid specimens to be determined.
• 1997.07.10: first vial with specimens arrived. Preliminary determination : not Ceratophysella.
• 1997.07.11: tentative determination : Hypogastrura cf. vernalis (Carl, 1901), based on the key of Fjellberg (1980) : 'cf.' for the tenent hair of the tibiotars is not knobbed.
• 1997.07.15: final determination : Hypogastrura (Hypogastrura) ripperi Gisin, 1952, based on the key of Gisin (1960) and Christiansen & Bellinger (1980).
• 1997.08.01: second vial with specimens arrived.
• 1997.08.11: photographs of habitus lateral and dorsal.
• 1997.09.01: article published in Entomo-Info.
• 1997.10.21: habitat added.
• 1998.01.01: project stalled.
